Yeah, I've seen one or two of these lately (there was a popular one on Facebook about kids trying to figure out how a Walkman works) and part of me doesn't get the point. I guess if the point is for people to realize how much technology has changed, well, ok sure it's interesting, but I feel like half the time it's more presented with the veneer of "these dumb kids these days."

Well honestly, if you showed me in the 90s when I was as old as these kids an instructional video from the 70s, or asked me to figure out how to use a record player, I would have been just as lost or amused at the dated nature of it. Hell I honestly kinda still am amused at the dated retro nature of the 90s video they're watching. :P

When I watch things like this, I think about how dumb those kids (or whomever) are going to seem to the next generation. And honestly, the kids doing this one already seem pretty silly to me. They're going to be embarrassed in ten years.

Yeah, I confess part of the fun for me is thinking about what YouTube instructional videos they're going to play for kids in 20 years hence. And they're all going to laugh about stuff because they're now used to products we don't really have on our radars yet. ("What is 3D printing?")

When was the last time any one of us actually "dialed" a phone?

As Rommie said in her first post, you can take any group, stick them with technology older or younger than them, and you'd have something similar. I'm old, but I can't start a car with a crank or make a flint axe, or understand most of what Sigma and GJ talk about with computers

I've never carded wool, and my wife has neither. I did watch my grandmother make laundry soap from ashes, but don't ask me to. I used to watch Milton Berle on a wood-burning TV, but I'll be damned if I can remember how we stoked it--I was just told to get the firewood, and step on it.

For these kids, the word we're looking for is "NEVER"...

The silliest thing in the Link I put on the OP was that damned jingle "On your Marks, Get set, We're riding on the Internet", with "Surf's up" a close second.

It was already lame in 1995
