I was listening to a woman at the store speaking Spanish so fast I'm surprised she got air ... but there is the middle of the sentence, "Shit" came out clear as a bell

Sorry Trish, but that's an anglicism, the proper spanish equivalent of "Shit" is "Mierda" 
You mention that the lady in question spoke very fast, that's common for people from the Caribbean, people from the Domenican Republic or Puerto Rico in particular tend to speak very fast and also tend to use "Spanglish" a lot.
My old man was pretty much a pain in the ass with us using Spanglish and I ended up the same (most of the time anyways), so don't mind me
I remember once in a conversation someone said something about "New Orleans" and pronounced "New ORE-Lins", since I was in a particularly pedantic mode that day I said "We're in Venezuela, we say NUEVA Orleans, if you want to say it the way the gringos do, say "New Ore-LEENS".
Today, I just discovered that natives from New Orleans actually pronounce it the way this person mentioned it, so the joke is on me

That's got to be pretty confusing for you since, if I recall right, you lived in Ottawa for a while. The part of the city that I live in is called - you guessed it - Orleans. Well, Orléans. Pronounced by English speakers as "Ore-LEENS." I bet there's a good chance you picked up that pronunciation while you were here.

I recently heard this pronunciation from natives: new-AW-lee-ins, all run together.
Kinda like Baltimore/Bawlmer. If you have to say it a lot, you settle on the way that takes the least amount of work. I never said it the native way, but I did say Bal-da-more instead of Bal-ti-more.
My parents live in Bel Air, pronounced Blair.
And of course all Maryliners have gone downy ocean.
