The nasty thing about this type of cancer is it may come back and it may not. Thus the reason we have to have MRIs more often than most - it's a sneaky little squatter who doesn't pay rent, never cleans up, and just expects you're ok with the whole thing.

Come the one year anniversary we will get Iky his zipper tattoo over the scar on his head. We will also probably try to go somewhere together, alone, and try to figure out how to handle the next year. From a psychological stand point the saying "day by day" may sound lovely, but the bigger picture always looms in the background and changes how you think, respond, act, react -- and you can't run away from that. EVER. Pushing it down doesn't help, pretending doesn't help. We have both tried but not necessarily successfully to deal with our feelings globally - that's the next step and it's scary. Why tell you guys? Because you are the closest thing we have to family other than those under our roof. You ALL deserve to hear and see and know. Some days we sail, some days we flail (hey that's a good button).

When we reach a year, I will get the S tattoo (there must be a red cape involved somehow) and have a space underneath for ever year we keep him close, and happy and as whole as can be. Notch it each year until my arm is covered and no room left (the best part is a single line isn't expensive, the cross hatch might be a tad more)

I know that many of you are facing your own issues, and I do not discount them for one minute. I just promised that I would keep it real here and I intend to do that with due diligence. We had a really bad night last night with Jeremy but we think we found a way to help him, help us ... and get things fixed. We will see how it goes. Teen age blow outs - I don't remember them being like that. Old Age and gray hair catching up on me.

Speaking of which I have decided not to dye my hair until the year anniversary. It should be interesting to see what color if any is left.

So...condensed down...that'd be "no".

Many years ago, my brother faced a particularly virulent cancer, and endured horrible surgery and therapy. Five years later, to commemorate being cancer-free, he got a tattoo above his ankle, a red circle with a red line across the middle of it over the astrological sign for Cancer. No cancer, in other words.

Everyone's reaction? "I see you don't have crabs."

That would be funny if I weren't pretty sure you're relaying real reactions .... ignorance should be against the law.

Well yeah, he told it many times as a joke on himself. I'm not sure how many really missed it. :)

Crab Cure Recipe (so simple even a marine can follow it):

1 ice pick
1 bottle of rubbing alcohol (may substitute 150 proof grain if desired)
1 razor
a small dab of shaving cream
A BIC lighter

Step 1: apply shaving cream to half the affected area
Step 2: shave the half that is covered with shaving cream
Step 3: douse the unshaven half (of the affected area) with the alcohol
Step 4: set the alcohol on fire (use the BIC lighter dummy)
Step 5: when the little buggers run from the fire stab them with the ice pick.

True Story, I told someone this was the cure... or he could go to the medic and get the purple crap like any normal SOB would.
