Yeah, we had a dusting of snow for Easter. Then today it was trying to snow but it was one or two degrees too warm to stick. But, it's still darn chilly.

Had some of the first really nice spring weather this weekend. Like, go for a walk in the woods, find a nice spot for a picnic type weather.

Found my first tick too crawling on my shirt, so guess we are back in the warm season officially! Sigh...

Thunderstorms, hail, downpours. I have never driven through a hailstorm before. It's loud, shockingly loud. I was sure either the windshield or sunroof was going to shatter. My poor Subaru is beat the F up. Like thousands of ball bearings were shot at it. But it saved me. We got an inch in 20 minutes and another inch an a half in the next two days. My road was almost impassible this morning, there are new lakes to name, plus a white water river in my front yard. Wish I could send some of this to Lake Meade.

Holy Shite! That reminds me of the huge hail storm we had more than a couple of years ago in Eastern Washington/Oregon. Cars were dented all through the region. A lot of the car sales places had a "dented and dinged" sale. Literally. Brand new cars with golf ball sized dents all over them. I think it took out a few windshields too.

My buddy that I'm helping and I are replacing a storm door for a customer that got shattered by the hail. Their vinyl siding is also beat to hell.

I saw the dents in my car. I'm surprised there is any siding left on the house.

We had a hailstorm a few years back. The day after we started getting solicitors for roof replacement. I swear we had a dozen or more come, even up to a couple months later.
Did we get a new roof covered by insurance? Hell yeah!

Indian Summer is over, fall has arrived. It is a bit ironic, one of my favorite songs by Joe Walsh is Indian Summer. He came to town Sunday and reunited the original James Gang as well as put several Ohio bands in the line up of his Ohio Version of VetsAid, which helps fund various organizations that provide aid and services to veterans and their families. A great cause and a great show, but I just derailed my one thread in one post. :P
Anyway, one week ago we were working outside in t-shirts by noon each day as the sun was out and temps in 60's-70's. It snowed Saturday and is currently 34 this morning and spitting snow and sleet. I love winter and am slowly learning to like fall. But I could use a couple weeks of acclimatization time between 70F and 13F (supposed to go down into the low teens over this weekend. Right when we are planning on dropping and cutting up several trees on my property. Brrrr.

Yeah, I've noticed with climate change you don't really have transitions any more. It's either one extreme or the other.

Didn't get the snow y'all did, instead it was just rain. I guess the ocean is still too warm.

Winter is supposedly coming. Highs in the 0's for Christmas. But of course, this being Ohio, it will be 40 and raining on Thursday.

Blizzard conditions Thursday and Friday in MN. Two of my husband's brothers will hopefully make it in town safely Wednesday, and then we hunker down for the duration! I'm glad we don't have travel plans ourselves.

Yeah, Mrs. T is worried about The Kid. She's been working in Ft Wayne IN this week, due to drive home to Dayton and then on to here on Friday, right in the thick of it.

This is a good time for a risk/consequence analysis! In the long term, is the consequence of delaying/cancelling her travel worth the risk of driving in a storm? Either way, I hope she stays safe!

MrPi's brother who was coming from Wisconsin decided not to drive in the heavy snow today. (He should have decided to drive yesterday instead but that's another story....) His other brother flying from MD is about to land, and MrPI just left to get him at the airport. The roads are bad and I'm going to be nervous until they get home, but I am confident in MrPi's driving skills.

So it started hitting here late Thursday night, temps plummeting from 45F to 0. Actually got down to -8 or so. Strong strong winds. The Kid tried and then bailed on an attempt to come home starting at midnight. Got a few miles out then turned around after almost getting stuck a couple times. She called us from the motel. She was going to try again later Friday morning, and was successful. Mrs. T suggested that we could postpone family Christmas, but she decided to head hear from her house in Dayton after a couple more hours rest. She made it.
Mrs. T and I didn't get any sleep or rest the entire time she was traveling, but I was able to distract myself by shoveling and plowing all day, and feeding the millions of cold hungry birds. When she got her she went directly to bed. Sat the 3 of us did our little Christmas then divided and conquered. Kid went shopping for her Uncle, Mrs.T picked up her mom who doesn't drive in snow. I went up and shoveled my parents out for a couple hours, then loaded their car so they could follow me home for our Christmas. So unfortunately, I was exhausted and couldn't wait for everyone to leave so I could relax with a tall glass of Scotch and pass out.
Good time had by all. :P

Sorry about the previous TL/DR crap. It just made for a busy stressful couple of days since it was the big holiday and everyone had plans and schedules. Any other time, I hope we would have just said, "stay warm and safe." But The Kid (22 1/2 :o ) really wanted to make it home to both her traditional family Christmas with us and the GParents, along with hosting festivities at the house with the BF and his entire family.

We both suggested that schedules could be altered or canceled. She's 22 and bulletproof. But she did make a great choice when she turned around. I'm crappy at turning around and quitting. I'm much better at looking at the options and canceling before even trying.

Hopefully, we all have a safe way of processing and making decisions. As for the Weather Thread. I guess sorry for the derail....

And while I'm droning on and on, I keep forgetting to ask how the Buffalo contingent is doing. You guys got hammered worse than most of us. Everybody OK?

Buffalo was hit hard. They are reporting 28 deaths related to the storm. We had a serious blizzard that ran for about 36 hours. We were fortunate as we never lost power. It took a day or so to dig out the drive way. My stupid Sonata needs studded tires. It keeps getting stuck at the end of the driveway.

It was a once in a hundred years storm. We will probably get another one next year. If not again this year.

I think every reputable study has shown winter-rated tires outperform studded tires in almost every aspect and they don't tear up the streets.

The body count is up to 40 deaths attributed to the storm in Buffalo. It’s not just people who died from hypothermia being stuck in the snow. They also include 3-4 people that EMS could not reach due to the snow. And at least 3 who died from trying to shovel it. :o
