40s and brown in MN. I'm not going to complain about not having a white Christmas. Today it was 18, windchill 3. I'll appreciate not having that cold for a while.

After a few days near 50, the temps plummeted over the weekend. Never quite made it down to 0 but it hasn't been above 20 since. Very windy a few days so the chill has been significant. No precip though. Supposed to dip back down and possibly snow this weekend, then back to 40's and rain next week.
Nothing we haven't seen before (almost every winter) but that doesn't stop the people around here from bitching and talking like it's the end of days, and why the hell do we live in Ohio crap.

We had a stretch of about 10 days when the temperature didn't get above the single digits. Totally normal for this time of year, so no complaints.
The next 10 days are forecast to be high in the 30s and 40s, maybe even 50. Not totally normal for this time of year. But I' not complaining too much. It's nice not to have to force Buster to wear his coat because it's dangerously cold outside.


Completely unheard of this time of year: We had about 3" of snow around Halloween. That melted quickly. Since then we've only had a few dusting that weren't even enough to completely cover the grass. It's stuck around because of the frigid weather, but it will be totally melting off soon.

For comparison we had over 90" of snow last winter!

Stuff like this always weirds me out- beautiful blue sky this morning, temps in the 40s, and meanwhile tomorrow we probably have the biggest snowstorm of the year. 8-12" predicted at our house, with a rate of 2"/hour at some points in the afternoon!

It really makes you appreciate modern weather forecasting- just gonna stay home tomorrow, NBD. But wow, in the pioneer times and what have you the accounts really are no joke about how the weather can be perfect and turn to deadly in a short period before you know it.

We had stupid unseasonably warm weather last week. Now kind of normal. About freezing outside this morning but a beautiful sunny day. I'd rather have a good six inches or more on the ground, but I appreciate it not being 40, grey, and rainy.

Well folks, I jinxed it. Turns out the storm tracked further south at the last minute, so suddenly Monday night we were only looking at a few inches of snow. Then woke up to rain Tuesday, we barely got a dusting, and it was over by 2pm. So, the entire city shut down for nothing!

I try to be generous to weathermen but wow, this was a particularly embarrassing one.

Well, spring came and went. Lots of rain and impossible to ever get the mowing done weather. The spring peepers came and went, the lightning bugs are already flashing, it's going up to 80 most of this week. The only thing still spring like is the copious amounts of pollen. My nose constantly runs, my eyes water and itch. And I didn't get a break over winter because we never had a decent winter.

(For those of you following along on other threads, this isn't quite me being more positive)

It's a beautiful day here today, I have all day to do anything. I'm going to go out and get some shit done.

We're coming off of two very dry summers. Last summer we mowed the lawn six times total. This year the rain has returned. It was the 7th wettest May in recorded history, and June is continuing the trend. As of now we are already up to 5 mows! It's great to welcome the rain when it comes instead of grumbling. As long as you're not doing anything outdoors that would be spoiled by the rain!

Sunny days are overrated anyway. Too bright, too hot, too skin cancer causing. I prefer clouds just about any day.

We've had florida weather all last week continuing through this week. 90's with 80-90% humidity. Actually, a front came through this morning and cooled it down just a bit, but it is still humid. Going to rain tonight then back to 90's all week. Mowing just 5 times, huh, I'm lucky not to have to mow 5 times a month, each and every month. If I skip a week, we are in a drought.

Although....I walked outside on the first sunny day in a long time. It was in the low 80s and not very humid, and the Sun's rays felt so good on my skin. I wish skin cancer wasn't a thing.

Yesterday, a lot of New England was under tornado watch (which was then a warning for a bit in New Hampshire- you can see videos of the funnel coming down, but never quite made it, probably bc the terrain is so hilly). All went north of us after all, so we didn't even hear any thunder.

And this was after weather in the high 90s last week, in JUNE. People who think the climate isn't changing are so baffling to me.

Aye. The heat index yesterday was over 100 F. I'm quite literally dreading how bad July and August will be - heat is a problem for a lot of people with autoimmune conditions, and I'm one of said people.

Summers were never this bad when I was a kid. Anyone who doesn't see it is keeping their head in the sand.

My boss and I have been having the same discussions while laboring in the heat. One of us would stop, pant, and say, "Remember when we were kids and we would love this weather and play out in it all day, every day, all summer?"
Yes we're not kids anymore, but it seems alot hotter, alot humider, alot eariier, alot more.

It is. The humidity especially. When I was a kid most summer days would be in the mid 80s, and not very humid. Now even the cooler ones a gross and humid, and as many days go over 90 as not.

A bit of a reprieve here, temps only getting up to the low to mid 80's and the humidity is down. It's been nice and welcome. We're heading to Oregon in a month and my obsessive uncle there (Yes my obsessive Dad's brother) keeps sending us news links of all the wildfires out there. Not sure if he's trying to convince us not to come out. He never really comments on the links he sends, you just have to kind of infer.

Holy crap, people were not joking about the lack of humidity out west. It's awesome! Literally, breath of fresh air. (People here were complaining about the heat wave a few weeks back, but honestly it got just as hot in Boston the past few weeks and humidity, so whatever.)

To me the strangest thing about being out West in weather is it actually gets quite cool in the evenings- like down to the 60s- so the mornings are actually quite cool, and the hottest part of the day is more like 5-6pm over mid-afternoon due to said lack of humidity. Honestly, it's really nice- you have the morning to do whatever outdoor thing you wanted, and we only run the AC for a few hours in the late afternoon versus all day in Boston (I'm sure later we'll become experts on minimal running of said AC, but right now in a new house with a baby we're not doing that). By evening, it's cooled down enough outside that if we just open our screen door in our bedroom, we can get the temps down to the level of not needing it. And also, all our electricity is hydro!

Interestingly, we went to the coast for a day trip two days ago, and while it might get into the 80s where we live it was all of 60 degrees to the point we went to for a walk. Serious temperature grade! We do want to go up into the mountains to explore too, but with a baby and forest fire season starting we'll probably be careful about what we decide to do.

All kinds of cool places to go up in the Cascades not too far up from Eugene. Geo will be a wonderful resource for planning day trips. At some point you'll have to go up to Timberline on Hood. I think it's amazing every time I get up there.

Definitely cooler in the mornings (but in a nice way), and the rains have started. Also, not seriously so- like, on Tuesday it rained in the evening but a drizzle fine enough for cycling in, so who cares. I'd say the overall weather pattern right now in Oregon is just "fog/clouds in the morning that will burn off at some point and the question is when."

Less weather over nature: one random unexpected perk here is migration has started, and at sunset on campus literally thousands of swifts are roosting in an abandoned chimney. video Imagine literally thousands of birds swirling around in a vortex, then descending en masse, frankly moving like that smoke monster in Lost. Never seen anything like it- nature is awesome.

We are finally, finally getting cooler weather here. And the leaves are starting to fall! I am so looking forward to my favorite season.

I absolutely love watching swifts funneling in and out of chimneys. It's amazing.
Although it's nicer and a bit cooler here in Ohio over Florida (vacation there last week). We are now in a pretty significant drought. Only a half inch of rain way back 15 days ago. No rain in the forecast for another week. Open burning bans are in effect. Gosh, I feel like I'm in Eastern Oregon.

Am I the only one posting about Hurricane Helene? Crazy how far inland it reached.

Well, I thought I did but don't see a post. Ohio was in the middle of a fairly significant drought when Helene made it up here. Lots of wind, downed tree limbs and 4.5 inches of rain in 4 days. Obviously nothing compared to the poor people in the Carolinas, but we had only seen 0.5 inches in the previous 30 days. I was amazed at how quick it got up here and how strong it still was.
