My daughter (Beth, 3) saw your avatars: "Is that a blue kitty with green and pink? And a red frog? His name is froggy frog." I should probably make her her own account!

Code Monkey, i think our time overlapped slightly (I might have converted to a lurker by then)

Hey man, I remember you!

I was the teenager really into stars. Now I'm the woman in her 30s who does stars for a living. :) Hi!

I remember you as well! Great job sticking with astronomy. I don't remember your specific interest/field/major, but I remember you got to do some cool stuff.... didn't you study in Europe for a bit (I don't know why I want to say the Netherlands, I am probably making a huge geo-political gaffe). The fact that you are in your 30s makes me feel really fucking old.

I don't remember exactly when I left or what state my life was in, but I went from running a construction business (Electrical Contracting) to stay at home dad of 1 and then 2 and now 4 (it's complicated) kids to becoming a Software Developer (engineer/programmer/there are too many descriptions of this field). I also got divorced (the complicated from above, also, no worries, it is amicable). There's probably a lot of other stuff I am missing. Like when I lost 80 pounds, ran some half-marathons, almost completed the LA marathon. My hair is getting grey, my beard is getting grey, my memory is getting grey. Life has been a helluva ride!

Hi.

Given I am a guy and I'm white, I'm not sure how I feel about welcoming someone with the handle 'diewhiteguy' to the forum.

So I won't.

I have my suspicions. it makes me quite sad as I'd thought much more of this person. this seems to be the season for personal disappointments for me.

So based on suspicions you think less of this person? Wow. I remember when people on here used to have a sense of humor. Ikyoto's FWIS is officially dead.

did I miss something? I thought the post was really really sad, unless it was meant to be humorous. I did try to email the person for clarification but it bounced

I did not get to see the post.
But based on the user name they chose, I would have been suspicious of the person. 'diewhiteguy' as geonuc posted. In this day and age, that is not funny, whether they were trying to be or not. I would have wanted to hear the rationale.

It was a troll. I found the posts hilarious. Looks like Cyborg Girl did too. This is why we don't delete stuff. We just lock it away, so people can come to their own conclusions.

Well, yeah. Clearly, his attempt at a humourous comeback was a big fail. But I don't know where he got the energy to post at all, what with working 60 hours a week and trying to fix up our house and boat. It's insane. But, then, he is insane. It's one of the reasons I love him.

Can you tell him he offended my non-binary attack helicopter sensibilities.

Or at least he would have if I'd read it.

Not getting his humor is noted. Lots of people don't get Australian humor. One guy came over here from Australia - a guy that is really hilarious - got no laughs whatsoever. We should NEVER lose the ability to laugh at ourselves.

Someone played a clip of SNL making fun of Ruth Bader Ginsberg and filmed her reaction. She found it hilarious. They asked her if they thought it was a good imitation of her. Nope. But she found it hilarious anyway.
