I remember a bike ride, had to be about 20 years ago. Either me or a buddy got a new bike over winter and anxious to break it out. We found out there was going to be a warm/dry Saturday so we went for a big ride. Had to be close to 60 that.
You heard peepers? Holy cow.Swift wrote:Thumper wrote:Twice since I've lived here: Saturday, and Sunday.

We were out hiking both Saturday and Sunday. That's not unusual, we hike in the winter, but it was about 60F around here too. The really weird part was we saw a green frog and some sliders (turtles) - normally you wouldn't see them till April or so, and we heard peepers calling.

I never mentioned this before but lifting the anchor in the wind is freaking hard when on your own. Far easier if someone can navigate while I direct and lift. With a winds like we've had it takes me several steps to get the anchor up. I'm estimating a load of about 200 pounds in 15 knots and I have to pull that by hand about 50 feet. There have been days I couldn't lift the damned thing with two hands and using a dead lift style so well over 400 pounds (I can dead lift over 400 pounds and couldn't even budge the chain). So it's like me climbing a 50 foot rope using only my hands. On a windless day it's more like 50 pounds. Still a lot when using hand over hand. Lets just say my arms and upper chest have increased significantly in the last few weeks due to the weather!

vendic wrote:Today will be fun. All three of us are now sick with this bug. All of us feel like crap and it's cold and raining all day without a break. Pulling anchor up in the rain sucks. It's very slippery and just miserable. We're getting about 1 amp in the batteries from the solar panels. Typically by now we are getting about 15-20. So our batteries are going to go down fast. At least the fridge is not working hard because it's so cold but that's not going to keep the batteries from discharging so we'll have to run the motor.
Oh, and the head is pretty much full so we have to pump out in the rain. Why the hell does it have to get full on the one day that it's raining?
