There's a reason the Scots were willing to help conquer warmer climates. :P

Was supposed to rain all weekend. Got most of it done Saturday. Yesterday was actually quite beautiful.

2 1/2 inches of rain in a couple hours Sunday night. The driveway got topped by the creeks in 2 places. Much of my driveway is apparently now in the next county. The rest is in the yard waiting to be shoveled and raked back in place. It shouldn't be a miracle every week that I actually am able to get most of the mowing done. In July. I hear some of you are a little short on rain. You're welcome to come take as much as you want. Yesterday morning I stood on the back sidewalk waiting for The Kid and just listened to the whitewater rapids in the back creek. I think they were Class 4. Then more rain yesterday, last night. It's raining now.

We actually had 5 days in a row over the July 4th weekend without rain. I heard the comment on the radio that weekend that those 5 days were the first time we've had no rain or snow for 5 days in a row since last October.

Got another inch and a half yesterday. On Monday, it listed Wednesday as the only day with a 0% chance of rain. It rained on us all the way into work this morning.

I noticed on the map that most of the Southeast was bright red. What color was it for you?
Only a quarter more inch for us yesterday. No rain in the forecast for us today...we'll see.

I'm sure it was red right on top of me. Really big thunderboomies. Frankly, I'm surprised the power didn't go out but that's a crapshoot depending on which trees fall down and if they take out a power line.

I can't hardly believe that we haven't lost power during one of the many storms. I'll probably lose it today, the only all sunny day in a month.

Two outs into the first inning of the Reds' game yesterday, and the crew runs out and covers the infield. 10 minutes later lightning is flashing all about and the intense downpour came in sideways. Luckily we were able to pack in with thousands of our closest friends under roof of the concourse. An hour later it was sunny, extremely humid, and we were able to sweat our way through some bad baseball.

Hazy hot and humid this whole week. We did have a big pop up thunderstorm Sunday, right when I was powerwashing everything. Kind of a big waterfight and I was in the middle.

Yeah there was some lightning and thunder. My glasses were so fogged up I couldn't see much and between the power washer motor and my headphones, I couldn't hardly hear the thunder.

Last weekend was perfect. It was like a tease all June and July that we were going to turn Ohio into a lake. We had maybe a hundred people over Saturday and it was the perfect summer day. Ground dried out just in time to support 40-50 cars. If we'd have had the party in June, I'd still be pulling people out of the mud.

Actually cool and fall like these last two days.

Been relatively pleasant. Still getting some decent rains every few days. Got a quick half inch Tuesday. But since then, the temps and humidity have been down a bit. Still cutting grass every week which is unheard of. I'll have more hours on the mower this season than any since I got it. All in all, a pretty great summer though it started out pretty cool and very damp. Very damp.

Been severely hot and dry here, and half the state is covered with wildfires. Can't spend much time outside because of all the smoke and ash in the air. 3 firefighters lost their lives at a fire that is a couple of hours' drive from here. We've had a couple of small grass fires locally, fortunately nothing that has spread or gotten out of control. We have a couple of days that are cooling off to the 80's, and then back up into the 90's. Still no rain in sight...

I was actually thinking of starting a separate thread about the fires. I was wondering if you, Hap, code monkey, Brite, and SciFiFisher were close to any fires. Or do you know people affected by the fires or are familiar with the areas that are burning? My uncle (in Portland) sent me a link that showed locations, sizes, and % contained of all the fires in the West. There were ALOT. We're getting coverage in Ohio about major developments and of course the tragic deaths of the fire fighters. Back in college my Dad worked for the forest service and fought fires in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon.

Not at this end of the state. Its been pretty dry for at least the last month; not Western US dry, but still dry. My lawn looks like crap, but at least I don't have to mow, because its not growing.

We drove to Eastern Ohio (Jefferson Co.) last week for a family reunion. I was really surprised at how dry it was there. The grass was going dormant. I told the guys there we were expecting thunderstorms in Columbus that night. We got over half an inch Wednesday, and it rained last night. Supposed to be dry for a week now. But I've yet to be able to skip a week mowing.
