The Weather Thread

Had a beautiful inch or two of snowfall along with a light ice storm last week while I was laid up. It was pretty to look out and watch. Since then it's been about 35, grey, muddy and rainy. Not sure when's the last time we saw the sun...

The Sun is overrated. I'm wearing sunglasses at my desk because the shades in our brand new building don't actually block any light.

Thank goodness some clouds rolled in before I got a chance to post this!

You could try a lightweight panel to put on top of your cubicle to block the sun. Or maybe request real blinds? :)

But complaining about it is so much more fun than trying to find a solution!!

It went from 55 and sunny to 28 and snowy in about 24 hours. As I drove in this morning my car read 29. That is today's predicted high. Supposed to be back to 55 by Saturday.

We got a good bit of snow a few days ago so we went on a snow hike and then later a snow drive in the mountains. The depth was about 1-2 inches lower in elevation but I was walking through 6 inches up in mountains.

It was, and the drive was on my birthday. I really like taking the Pathfinder out on challenging roads in the national forest, so that was my choice for the day.

Yes, southish. This is west of Bend towards the Cascades, north of Tumalo Creek, which runs through the valley below. Bend is in view on the left. The volcanoes - which look spectacular now - are out of view to the right.

By the way, I know you're not on Facebook, where I occasionally post my adventure photos, but I also put some up on Instagram.

I was going to look around on Google Maps and see if I can figure out where you are in that pic. Unfortunately, most of those logging and NP roads aren't in the inventory, just individual photos. I couldn't find any with a vista that looked like yours, mostly hiking trail and creek pictures. Then I found a few from Tam McArthur Rim Lookout and I was going to ask if you were close to there. Then I looked at your instagram pics (Thanks!) and saw you had one from there with the caption about "Koda chasing critters." That looks like the same lake (Three Creek Lake) in both photos. Am I close?

Also, it's been so long since I've seen a good size Oregon deer. So much bigger than the white tails in Ohio. Were those mule deer in your picture with the two bucks?

Tam MacArthur, which is a great hike, is a bit north and accessed from Sisters. Yes, that's Three Creek Lake in my photo, taken from near the rim lookout.

With the latest photo, I was at:

The dead-end road that runs past the communication tower.

Ha, I was really close to that looking near Tumalo Falls before I got distracted with Tam McArthur and your instagram pics.

Wow, we hit 65 yesterday. Beautiful day after an all day downpour Saturday. We had a large gathering yesterday. Good weather for that, but we had to push a bunch of people out of the mud. My yard is a disaster. Highs in the 30's most of this week.

We actually have an overnight freeze warning. I think it is supposed to get to exactly 32F. Right now it's 37F. :)

Got freakishly warm yesterday here too. Not 65, but definitely into the 50s. I felt bad for the local ski hill (ok, 2 hours north of me, but the one I go to), who opened on Friday, and got some rain for their trouble. :? Was thinking of heading up next weekend, but probably not worth it with just three runs open so far!

Had a nice time last week though when fluffy snow was falling and I got to walk home in it (and, key fact, no wind blowing). There are few things nicer! But I guess one shouldn't live in Canada if they don't like something about winter. :)

Btw, pretty excited bc for my bf's big round birthday recently the parents gifted him/us a weekend's hotel stay in Quebec City during their winter carnival in February. Now that is going to be cold and something to write about in this thread! :P Now debating 7.5 hour drive vs flying for a long weekend. You're screwed in both cases if the weather turns bad, IMO.

It's 55 F today, pretty nice for this time of year in Boston. Falling rapidly towards the evning though.

Forecast says 1-3 inches of snow next Sunday, but TBH I doubt it will happen :/

The advantage of having the weather mess with your flights is that you are stuck in a nice warm airport. :P

I think he was suggesting they might be a tad warmer than a ditch on the side of the road. ;)
We almost froze to death in O'hare when we got the spend a free night in the terminal one July evening. I was pulling newspaper out of the trash bins to cover us up. Our luggage was unavailable, we were wearing shorts and t shirts. The hotel voucher we finally got from the airline wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. The tile floor was cool, the A/C was cranked in prep for the crowds coming the next morning. Had to be a bout 50 in there.
