Ok, I've mostly been mentioning this tournament in the beer thread, deciding which seasonal brews to drink while watching games. A rundown of the tourney:
Yesterday was quarter-final Friday, the results: Russia beat USA 3 - 2, Sweden beat Finland 6 - 3, Slovakia beat Czech Rep. 3 - 0 and Canada beat Denmark 8 - 0 . The semi-finals go tomorrow, Russia vs Sweden at 4pm , Canada vs Slovakia at 7:30pm. Both games will be played at the ACC in Toronto.
Much has been made in the papers about the low turnout at the games in Montreal (avg. less than 10,000 per game ) and whether it is lack of interest by Montrealers , the high ticket price or a bit of both. They are charging NHL prices for these games, prices not set by the owners but by the IIHF. The tourney will be in Finland next year and return to Toronto - Montreal in 2016, with Montreal hosting the medal round.
That said, Go Canada!
