Is it just me?

Haven't been here for a while and maybe I just need some reassurance from people who do not think in straight lines.
Yesterday the husband and I were enjoying a most delicious brew from a local brewery. Husband ordered a pint. I ordered a half pint and added "And if you haven't got a half pint, God bless you." I sang it. Blank stares. Is it just me?

I know it as "If you have no penny, a hay penny will do. If you have no hay penny then God bless you." I can't remember the first half of the song.

I'm afraid I'd have given you a blank stare, too.

Never heard of it either, but that doesn't mean much. But just wanted to chime in that it's really nice to see you around here, I've missed your posts!

It's coming back to me.
Something something something, the goose is getting fat. Please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you have no Penny, a haypenny will do. If you have no haypenny then god bless you.

Please do put a penny in the old man's hat

If you haven't got a ha'penny, then God bless you!
I believe the Kingston Trio and the Weavers both did versions of it; I think the Weavers did it as part of piece with a bunch of songs put together.

Here's something funny....I "typed" my version of the lyrics using voice recognition. It automatically wrote ha'penny. I corrected it to hay penny.
Go Google Voice!
Plus I didn't need to look it up. After I posted that I remembered "Christmas is coming." It's amazing what things stick in your head for almost 40 years....

I'd have broke into song as well...shortly afterwards there would be screams of agonizing pain.

The pint version might have been created on the spot. But it just seemed right, since a lot of brewpubs around here are just starting to offer the half pint option.
And I'm doing well! Had a nasty bout of pneumonia this winter but better now. It seems that, inexplicably, I am getting older and the old immune system isn't what it used to be. Who knew?

I feel your pain. I've had some bronchitis for over a month that I can't shake completely, in spite of two doctor visits. I remember my dad having a good case of bronchitis almost every winter.

I remember singing that in elementary school. I would have gotten it if you would have said it around me.
