Happy New Year!
A new year
To cherish those who are dear
A new start
As old worries from us do part
A chance to polish the resolve
And make our bad habits dissolve
A time to forego malice
Or share in forgiveness
A moment to reflect
Upon those acts we regret
The love not given, the kind word not said
The harsh gaze delivered,
The rudeness we forced upon others
A pause to ponder the roads not taken
Or to rejoice in the ones that we did
And the hope eternal that this year
We will be a better person than we were last year.

I never do (haven't for many years). If I am sincere about changing something, August 19th is as good a date as January 1, and if I'm not sincere, saying it on January 1 won't make it so.
