I suppose you could get a stuffed animal. Or there is this
electronic version.

@Fisher one of my friends actually sent me a stuffed pig a while back. Helps but not the same.
And wow it's... a little creepy how actual-cat-like that is, and also how not at all like a cat. It's very cute in a way that feels like it
should be right in the Uncanny Valley, but somehow isn't? Like some errant god breathed life into a claymation cat, stiff jerky movements and all.
Edit: I wonder if the Electronikitty emulates the "No touchies, your arteries are MINE!" part of the cat experience though.

are cats not allowed in your apartment? if they are then why not adopt one. (or put yourself on a waiting list as I've heard that there's been a great demand for them.)

I suppose if it doesn't scar you it might not be a real cat.

When you get down to it that really is part of why I love cats though - not the scars, but that they don't take shit from people. Kitty needs space? Kitty lets you know it. Kitty wants cuddles? Kitty pesters you for cuddles incessantly. They are extremely clear about their needs, wants, and boundaries. I like that, and TBH it's a thing I can learn from them.
Also a person not liking cats is one of the red flags I look for when dating. Not just as a matter of personal preference, but because a lot of times IME people who hate cats hate them because they set boundaries and have a strong concept of "no". Not always, not inevitably, but often enough.

Right now, there are 7 cats in my house. We started with one in October last year. Then, on Dec 29 I found a 6 week old stray kitten all wet near the entrance of my house. So we took her in. in February, a third one got inside the house and wouldn't leave. So, we said ok, she can stay. Then in the middle of the pandemic. two of the cats had 2 kittens each. So now we have 7 cats and we need to sterilize 6 of them. Because, as much as we like cats, that's enough.

I'll forever maintain that cats are actually sociopaths who just know how to manipulate us for things they want (pets, food, etc).
But I'll be damned if I don't fall for it myself!

I'm still convinced they're very empathic, but then I've fallen for human sociopaths before IRL, so *shrugs*.

Well, the hallmark of a good sociopath is that they manipulate you into thinking they care. Ergo...Cats!

Well, they've been all sterilized. The Adults where taken to the vet three months ago. And today the kittens had their turn.
