We're not much interested in doing a garden this year. Too much work after a year of too much work, but we've got a guy growing some chili peppers for us, and we'll be putting a few herbs in the front just off the porch. Looking forward to that!

I have a big garden in and will post pictures when I get home... but... my wonderful grandson seems to be digging it back up... LOL I'll get some chicken wire and fence that off and get him his own raised bed to play in...

He's going to take something seriously if he's dug up my tomatoes... or the watermelons and pumpkins that I planted just for him!

And he's teaching the dogs bad habits... like digging in the garden!

The son and the grandson. WHOLE other story... We now speak fluent Poe in our house... (That little blonde fellow that I post pictures of on FB, is Poe)

I have only basil, oregano and mint growing right now. But I'm trying to get some chile seeds to sprout. They are from Facing Heaven chiles, which are very hard to find. My favorite cookbook author, Fuchsia Dunlop, turned me on to them years ago and I managed to find some in a small asian grocery store here in Atlanta.

I still have way too many super hot chiles in the freezer.

It's hard to say... the dogs tattle on him and then try to save him when he's in trouble... it's an odd relationship...

Pleased to report that this year I have a rooftop terrace garden, so my mom helped me get some things going two weeks ago when she was here. Basically there were boxes, but nothing in them had been taken care of in like five years...

Got the herbs (still wanna pick up some basil, hmm note to self) and flowers which are doing ok (fave is the lavender of course), plus a few smaller brambles (blackberries, blueberries) and a pepper and eggplant. Except being record cold and all (like literally, down into the low 40s in late May!) I think the pepper plant has already died and the eggplant is not far... will need to replace I guess now that the weather is better and hope for the best.

Btw, I'm tempted to plant a cucumber plant as I know those actually grow well, but my mom told me it shouldn't be a priority as they might grow too well and it'd take over everything. Anyone have experience on this?

Since my previous post has gone awry - we are doing tomatoes, hot peppers, basil, garlic, onion, mint (two types), oregano. The kids have their own plots so they can catch the farming bug.

Got my sunflowers in and put some pumpkins in the same bed for ground cover. Now the battle commences to keep the varmits out.

Mostly rabbits, moles, and deer.

We have lots of opossums, some racoons, lots of squirrels and not ling ago I saw a wild turkey.
Had a gun in my hands too but it was just over the border on our neighbor's property so couldn't have it for dinner.

May I recommend a simple single-shot target pistol with subsonic loads?
No one will hear a thing, including the squirrels...

I have a .22LR and I only shoot subsonics.
Problem is, subsonics are the most prone to ricochet and I just don't break my rules of shooting on another persons property or shoot without adequate backstop.
Call me strange because around here they aren't bothered by breaking either.
Not sure why you think subsonics are silent. They just don't have a sonic boom.
Unless they have a silencer on them to reduce the noise of escaping gasses they still make quite a sound.

Stupid chile pepper seeds haven't germinated yet.

praying the veggies don't drown

The pumpkins, watermelon tomatoes, peas and beans have all managed to survive the Poe assault... everything else... not so much. Have to start over with the herbs, and the rest of the veggies. I love my grandson. He's 3. He's really cute. But he's 3.

My morning glories and moonflowers have taken hold, and the jasmine has survived the Poe... so there is that.

He keeps trying to make friends with the hummingbirds (they dive bomb him) and the dragonflies (they ignore him and dive bomb the dogs)...

We're trying some various veggies in our tiny patch of Sun. Peas, green beans, broccoli, green peppers, hot peppers. All ones that we buy on almost a weekly basis. Oh, and Radishes. Buster picked those out, based on the picture on the package. He's never tasted them before, so I have a feeling that if they grow well he'll be disappointed!

Last year, green and hot peppers worked. Green beans didn't. The rest we didn't try.

We also have rosemary, basil, and Thai basil.
