Happy 2014 !!!!

Postby FZR1KG » Wed Jan 01, 2014 3:40 am

May it be better than 2013.
It's 9:40pm December 31st and I'm doing my usual New Years celebration.
Time to go to bed.
And complain if I get woken up at midnight and yell at people who are noise because I'm trying to sleep. LOL

Stupid keyboard. Still not used to these flat key boards on laptops.
Often I get missing keys or doubles. Sometimes swapped positions.
Drives me nuts.
I miss my old 1970's Cherry keyboard.
Now those were really well made. Full travel, consistent performance, molded lettering, mine was water proof.
Loved it.

I've heard a lot of people say that modern keyboards are terrible. OTOH I tried using a mechanical keyboard once, and couldn't stand the damn thing.

Mechanical?
Like a type writer?
Because I'm talking about a proper keyboard for programming computers.
Imagine a very high end desktop keyboard.
Mechanical keyboards, as in keys connected to leverrs are total shit.
Much like the r on this one.

Happy New Year. I too will be in bed by approximately 10 PM my time.

I have to nurse the wife who caught some sort of intestinal bug and chase a three year old all day tomorrow.

Here GJ: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cherry ... 64801.aspx

Not sure what these new ones are like but the model I had was amazing.
When punching out code like crazy it was a sheer joy to use.
Mine was salvaged from a mini computer. No expense spared. It was a Cyber model 18/20.

You kids crack me up talking about keyboards. Why, when I went to school (up hill both ways in a blinding blizzard in 75 degree weather) we learning typing on manual typewriters. When the IBM selectric came out everyone was estatic that we wouldn't have to work as hard as we did in gym class anymore just to type a few pages.

I have an HP 17" laptop with a full sized keyboard that I use when I am not at my desktop. This post is typed with it. Compared to most laptops or virtual touchpad keyboards it is quite nice.

I think we all agree that 2013 sucked. Here's hoping 2014 is better! At least I'm looking forward to this year. I dreaded last year and with good reason.

Happy 2014!

I've decided NYE is probably my least favorite holiday. This might have something to do with the fact that I always spend it with my parents, who are of course nice people but seriously, they always get excited about going out to dinner at 9pm even though we've been having dinner together all week so it's not special except for the part where I'm tired and hungry and hence cranky. Plus the fact that I stay up until midnight most days anyway might have something to do with it.

I like NYE.
It's the one night I am guaranteed to be able to sleep.

Yeah, I'm not big on NYE. For one, it seems to be an excuse to get drunk and stupid for a lot of people - if that's your idea of a good time, good for you, but it ain't mine.

Second, it seems inevitable that something bad has happened (like Deb's mom dying last year) and/or one or both of us is sick. This year, its my turn.

I think the last cool NYE we had was well over a decade ago - we went to a Reggae NYE at a local club.

I haven't really celebrated New Years Eve in a while but this one mark in anniversary of sorts.10 years ago I went to New Years Eve party. I almost didn't go cause I wasn't feeling great but I decided to anyway. I met a guy that night and we dated for a little while. When that fizzled a friend set me up with someone else. When that didn't work out I realize that I had exhausted all the traditional methods of meeting somebody-- friends of friends, social sports leagues, going out to bars etc. so I decided to join match.com. MrPi was the first person I went out with. The next New Years Eve I was with him and by then I knew I would be with him for the rest of my life. If I had chosen not to go to that party I would not have joined match when I did and would not be where I am today.

I know just about every decision we make effects the future and you could point to anything and say well if I had chosen differently I wouldn't be here but this case is one specific decision I remember making and know for sure that it completely changed my life for the better.

I know exactly how you feel. If I hadn't delayed going to U.Va. for a year so that I could help my mom out by working, I wouldn't have been doing the most boring filing job in the world, and I wouldn't have found my way to Bad Astronomy or FWIS.
