In Oz, a Crescent wrench is called formerly a "shifting spanner" and informally an AFS. Any Fucking Size.
Apparently in Virginia it's referred to as a West Virginian socket set. So I'm told.

I've rarely managed to get a nut loose using pliers.
I've heard pliers are no good for any mechanical work but are great for kinky sex...

i don't understand the last few posts and i suspect that that is just as well. please do not try to explain.
i've found pliers essential for making jewelry and very useful for getting the plastic insets out of bottles when i get them ready for recycling.
