An observation on alt-right "news sources"

Postby Cyborg Girl » Fri Sep 30, 2016 6:02 pm

I'm seeing Trump fans link anti-Muslim, anti-EU propaganda stories... From Russia Today. I knew RT was a rag, but I didn't know their fabrications dovetailed with those of the alt-right.

I really, really don't want to be indulging in paranoid conspiracy stuff... But I wonder how much of the alt-right is homegrown, and how much is actually an Astroturfing job by Putin's people.

I am sure we have enough of our own home grown ones. Of course, we have a strange relationship with Russia. There are many instances where Russia seems to be involved in some our more extreme cases. President Kennedy's assassination for example. :o

Serves them right for brainwashing one of our citizens and programming him to kill the president.

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep..."

Other than "Telefon" , I was thinking the original "The Manchurian Candidate" .

One of the reasons I love FWIS. I can make obscure references to totally useless trivia and someone will not only get the reference but will see my totally useless trivia and raise me even more awesome and totally useless trivia. :P

Nine times out of ten they can quote the documentary, a movie, or the most obscure conspiracy theorist. :cheer:

For the record, it's pretty well known for some years now that Russia pays people to go onto message boards and the like and canvas a pro-Putin message. This happens really often on Reddit, for example- you can particularly tell as posts on other random dictators never have a ton of the defense brigade jumping in.

Hillary Clinton has a superPAC doing "social media" too, for the record, and I'm sure someone is doing the same for Trump even Putin stuff aside. And I'm sure they were doing it already 4 years ago. It's just part of the game these days.

That said, it was also pretty clear to me that a lot of vitriol against Clinton during the Bernie phase of the primaries was really coming from Republicans.
Yes, I have a life. It's quite different from yours.
