In an attempt at solidarity, all husbands and bf's should burn their other half's favorite bra.
Do it for the girls! :)

True story. A few years back, when my brother was living in Budapest, he had his first Hungarian girlfriend. They were hanging out one night, and when he said at the end he was gonna get ready to leave, she said "aren't you forgetting something?"

"No?" asked my brother.

"What day is it?" she asked.

"Thursday?"

And that's how he first heard about women's day, and ended up in the doghouse because it's arguably bigger than Valentine's Day in Hungary (and many other former communist countries, as it's originally a socialist holiday and Valentine's is religious in origin).

Ever since then, my brother just keeps an annual alert on his phone. :)

I've heard of it before but never heard of it being such a big deal in the US until today.

Did anywoman stay home? It wouldn't have much of an impact at my work because our staff is about 80% female. And I'm in a position now where I'm making a lot of decisions for my planetarium, guiding projects and negotiating contracts with outside partners who are all male. So I feel very empowered at this time! On most of these decisions I have only one person I may need to defer to for a final decision--our executive director. Also a woman.

As far as not spending money, well today I bought a bra and am getting my hair cut. I suppose those are worthy exceptions?

I'm curious - what is the significance of not spending money?

Driving home listening to a local independent radio station, they announced, "It's National Women's Day." Then it listed about 12 names and said they all have the day off. "It's just us 4 dudes today. What could go wrong?"

Probably some claptrap about how society would suffer if there weren't women. I didn't pay any attention to it. Some of us have to buy groceries almost daily due to lack of storage space. :D

I think we should have women's day, men's day, child's day, gay day, lesnian day, trans day, dogs day, cat's day, animals day, a day for every country in the world, fish day, whale day, mammal day, monkey day...
Then once the calendar is filled, we all take a day off to celebrate and reflect the significance of that particular day. The world would be a better place. lol

Bismuth has its own day?

I mean don't get me wrong, bismuth is a great element, I've even worked with it many years ago. I'm just pleasantly surprised that it has a day.
:P

It's a great element that seems to get attracted to any other element without preference.

I'd like to find out more about lesnian day. And maybe some clarification on how we differentiate between mammal, whale and monkey day. Also, is there no separate ape day? This could get complicate.

I could also use a bad typing or no proof reading day. Obviously.

National Proofreading Day was March 8. Yes, really, there is such a thing.

February 2nd - Duck-Billed Platypus Day: Not only do they look incredibly odd, they're also one of the world's very few venomous mammal. What could be better? So, stick a duck-bill on your face, attach some poisonous spines to your ankles, and go nuts. Of course, if you did the first two, number three is probably already covered.

Though I think I like this one better:
October 30th - Sarcastic Fringehead Day: I shouldn't have to explain why this one is listed here. It's actually some kind of fish that lives along the Pacific coast. They're about 9 inches long, and very strangely shaped. For years I've suggested that people put some sort of fringe on their heads and act very sarcastic on this day. You'll do that, right? Yeah, sure you will.
