America's Waterway Watch

Dept Homeland security and the Coast Guard issued a pamphlet that came with our boat registration and title.

Help keep America's waterways safe and secure.

Whats in it?

Ok, now the fun begins.

It has the following bulletin points for boaters to watch out for and report if observing someone engaged in such suspicious activity, all bolded sections are direct quotes:

People appearing to be engaged in surveillance of any kind (note taking, shooting video/photos, making sketches, or asking questions).

Really???

Unattended vessels or vehicles in unusual places.

Maybe we need to define "unusual" first.

Lights flashing between boats

LOL
Unusual diving activity

That word again.

Unusual night operations.

There's that word again.

Unusual number of people aboard

I do not think that word means what you think it means...

Anchoring in an area not typically used for anchoring

They are getting clever and are trying to trick us. Isn't that just a long way of saying an "unusual" anchoring area?

People showing uncommon interest in security measures, entry points or access controls

Hmmm, does uncommon = unusual?

It goes on but I think you all get the message.

The message as far as I can tell is, "America, fear the unusual, suspect the different".

Been in a major train station lately? They have "If you see something, say something" videos playing continuously on the wallscreens... err, LCD televisions.

There are also homeless people everywhere. But nobody's worried about them. They're just herpaderps who don't know how to use the internets.* No way could any of us wind up like that, dying in a terrorist attack is much more likely... Ooh rah!

And kids, report your parents if they do anything unusual.
