Here is an explanation on the history of foreign currency exchange control under Chavez including the latest "simplification". Don't bother to read it if you're already depressed.

No matter though, we're fucked anyways

I never liked Nationalizations, I do prefer the government to deal with stuff Private Industry won't do because there's no profit in it. However, wasting time trying to Rollback Chavez's epidemic nationalizations right now is useless. Once Nicky is gone (I hope) that can be done rather quickly. But right now, with the government' death grip in the economy this is nothing but hot air.

OTOH, when the latest bright idea Nicky and his Band of Merry idiots have to deal with scarcity.... maybe I am aiming too high.

It seems there are only two possible outcomes. Venezuela becomes the South American NK. Or the revolt will happen any day. I am actually hoping for a third outcome which is that a relatively peaceful change for the better occurs.

Apparently Nicky doesn't have enough support from the Military for outcome #1, Outcome #2 is a distinct possibility. I think we'll become the South American Zimbabwe.

plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

Despite the ritual protestations to the contrary, MUD has yet to agree on a real plan for regime change. By “a real plan” I mean one you can operationalize, one that structures expectations and work plans for activists at the grassroots level. A real plan has priorities, timelines and goals: it’s about saying what you won’t do as much as what you will do. Since MUD can’t seem to agree on a real plan, it has announced it will do everything at the same time, a commitment-phobic “plan” of appeasement that not even Chúo Torrealba seems to take seriously.

15 years failing and they still don't learn.
