Alberta votes NDP

Voters in Alberta wanted change. After 44 years in power, the Progressive Conservatives got trounced on Tuesday. Alberta has it's first majority NDP prov. gov't. Should be an interesting next four years in that province. IIRC, 4 elected NDPers were in gov't before this, they now will need to form a gov't. Shades of what happened in Ontario in the early 90's when we had a majority NDP gov't. They weren't expecting to win and all of a sudden they had a majority.

NDP is similar to a Labour Party.

Wow, completely Unexpected. I remember in the 80s the wry comments by the Liberals and the NDP about Ontario's long lived Conservative dominance, they said there were communist countries whose governments had lasted less.

Do Canadian provincial governments have a lot of power or does it mostly reside in Ottawa?

Many shared responsibilities. I'll just say, much like in the US there are state and federal issues, we have provincial and federal issues. Some overlap and funding issues.
