She promotes things like this:

And I am sick of hearing from individual women that their men are all right. Those men have been shored up by the advantages of patriarchy and they are complacent, they are not stopping other men from being shit.

I would love to see a women’s liberation that results in women turning away from men and saying: “when you come back as human beings, then we might look again.”

(thank you, dr Lamaze!) is this the 1st nut case you've encountered or has it been > 1 yr since the last? if so give thanks that you're around for this amazing encounter. have you never encountered a male spouting ideas equally (if not more) bothersome? you know that you have and you didn't come up with a gender-specific term for him, did you? so why one in this case? and borrowing from rush. tsk, tsk.

Yeah, same reason I didn't post a response earlier either- I am sure there are such idiots in the world, but I've never encountered one and can't see them having much bearing on me and my life, so why waste energy on them?

Far better to waste energy on idiots like my adviser, who refuses to tell the university I'm not actually unemployed at the end of the month until next week's stupid deadline even though I'm ahead on said deadline.

We're always hearing about men that are stupid but not to this level. I would see posts at least daily on FB and plenty here too. Usually about trying to control women's rights or abusing their position of power.
So far I haven't seen a male put forth the idea that women should be rounded up into concentration camps or that they aren't worthy of being considered human beings. I'd have posted it as well.
The closest we get is some Muslims who treat women like property. If the women above was referring to them, I might be inclined to agree with her, but, she's putting all men in the one basket.
As an example, when we hear of a prominent man who took advantage of his position to sexually harass women, it gets to be published everywhere. I'd imagine there would be a huge outcry if a male who was a regular writer for a popular paper put forth the idea that women should be put into concentration camps.
The biggest problem here is that she is a leading authority figure for feminism, a spokesperson. Now it might just be me, but, I consider women's rights and equality to be far too important to let it be associated with people like this. She does more harm than good to the cause of women's equality. Sadly, it seems to be largely ignored so the end result is that people won't take feminism seriously. If too many women like this get to be representing the feminism movement then it is destined to fail miserably. Ignoring it till it taints the entire movement is not a wise thing to do.
So yeah, I'm upset about it. Not because of her or what she is saying. I'm upset because of what she is doing and that is undermining the basic principle of feminism and she's not only being let into the fold, she's being shown the path to the top of it.
That is not a good thing for women anywhere.

I'm not at all familiar with the woman quoted. a leading authority figure?! a spokesman??!! elected by whom? I have no idea what prompted her statements. which are outrageous. they were taken from an interview and not part of a prepared speech. what was the context? I would point out that there *was* a huge outcry against her statements; your link is to an on-line petition against her!

am I correct in believing that you have not made an exhaustive search for equally revolting statements but with the genders reversed? if so, and you are reporting on what you have seen/not seen in your perusal of your favorite sites, then you cannot say that they do not exist. in a few minutes I found the following posts -

and how can anyone forget the blithe assertion that women were unable to hold positions of leadership due to 'raging hormonal imbalances'? or the stepford wives. (yes, I know that it was a novel and a film and not a call to action.)

and rush Limbaugh (really, vendic, following rush Limbaugh?), who coined the term, was reacting to nothing so extreme.

Just because he's picked up the term does not mean vendic is following Rush Limbaugh. That's not his style.
