Michele Bachmann isn't running again.

I didn't see anywhere her reasoning for the decision, only that it is *not* because there was a scandal in her presidential campaign involving improper payment of and Iowa staff person. My hunch (completely unsubstantiated) is that she wants to run for governor. We just got through a tough legislative session where the democrats pissed a lot of people off so she'll probably think she can build on that. But the people in the whole state of MN are not as stupid as the people in the district who voted her in for 5 sessions. Plus, she only narrowly won last time.

Politics will be less interesting without her, but probably saner.

Unfortunately, there is an endless supply of crazy. I suspect Fox will hire her as an Analyst or something.

Oh it would be so great if she went the way of Sarah Palin instead of trying to stay in public office.

As pumpkinpi mentioned, I've also seen speculation about some improper campaign financing.

I love this new development. Jim Graves, her democratic challenger (DFL in MN, for "Democrat Farm and Labor") from the previous election was planning to run against her again. Today, he dropped out.

"This was never about Jim Graves; this was about challenging the ineffective leadership and extremist ideology of Michele Bachmann on behalf of those she represents," Graves said in a statement Friday. "As of Wednesday, that goal was accomplished -- and our supporters are and should be incredibly proud of that accomplishment. I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude for the tireless work of our fantastic campaign team and our legions of friends and supporters."

His accomplishment was that in a heavily republican district, she beat him by only 1% and perhaps was worried that she would lose the upcoming election.
