Basically they burn it with zinc powder and it generates zinc chloride vapor, which is not just irritant but caustic, a known carcinogen, and much more likely than tear gas to actually kill people. Zinc chloride might be better known as an ingredient in "black salve" quack cancer remedies, you know, the kind that make people's skin slough off wholesale.
Tear gas is already bad, but like. This is a whole other level. There are going to be permanent health effects. 20 years down the road there are going to be people getting skin cancer, lung cancer, shit like that because the feds used this chemical weapon against US civilians.
