TX mayor tells the people of his city to fuck off and die

I'd say this has to be seen to be believed, but it's really pretty mainstream for US politics these days.

Mayor Tim Boyd of Colorado City, TX wrote:The City and County, along with power providers or any other services owes you NOTHING! I'm sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout!"

Because, you know, wanting to get a service that you paid for is asking for a handout. The real meat of it though is this line

Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish [sic].

See, he wasn't fucking around, this is literally what he believes. This is where US conservatism is at now, if you're "weak" you're just invited to die - you know, just like in Nazism.

Anyway Boyd resigned (yay). But not before doubling down, and also moaning a bunch about how he was "harassed" for his post. Expect him to capitalize on the business opportunities of being "canceled" in a few months I guess.

That's what happens when the leadership above you modeled the fuck off and die approach the last four years.

I mean I'm pretty sure that's been going on for longer than four years in Texas for a great many number of people. The only surprise here is he said the quiet part out loud.

But yes. Always so strange to read these sorts of things because we did legit almost move to Texas had this job offer not come up. Which was gonna be in Austin and probably would have been pretty chill in daily life, and I did like the appeal of moving to a state to try to help make it more progressive (because people like me doing that is honestly one of the best ways to change the makeup of the country politically), but damn this has been quite the reminder to my hippie friends in Austin that you can only do so much if you're completely surrounded by these kinds of people.

This is why deregulation of essential services was one of the batshit crazy ideas that prove Republicans have been trying to crash society for years.

Meanwhile, Ted Cruz got onto a plane to go on vacation in Cancun. Everyone was all outraged and now it looks like he's on the standby list to come back tonight.

I always thought it was pretty messed up that everyone who knows Cruz hates him, to the point where he almost lost re-election in Texas, but by now he just knows he won't face repercussions for this stuff anyway, so who cares.

Yeah the elite impunity thing is... bad. Really bad. Always been bad, but I feel like it's much more out in the open since Trump; instead of trying to get it swept under the rug and forgotten, the bastards rub our faces in it to keep us hopeless.

Edit: we have a less crooked President now, but the (semblance of) rule of law hasn't returned. At all.

So uh. You know that saying every civilized country is a few days of missed meals from a revolution?

Looking at Texas, and thinking about that a lot. :scream:

Sadly, they are too busy trying to survive to start a revolution.
