I think the "odd-looking salute" phrase is likely because established newspapers don't want to deal with lawsuits when he inevitably insists it wasn't a Nazi salute. But if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck...

The apologists are also so fucking dumb- if this is no big deal, walk into your workplace or kid's school and do it. And if he just doesn't know what he's doing etc, maybe he shouldn't be involved in government? I'm pretty sure the actual Nazis aren't misidentifying it.

Yeah it's pretty clearly the same routine as 8 years ago. Normalize, waffle, and sanewash. I'd say nothing was learned, but it's clear they didn't want to learn anyway.

I think a lot of the more immediate effects will be from workplaces, landlords, and insurance companies feeling more free to discriminate.

The prison stuff has me really worried for the long run though. As I mentioned elsewhere, the long term goal is to mass arrest queer people (and anyone who aids and abets us) on sexual morality charges. Anything worsening our protections in prison (as the current EOs) or making it easier to arrest us on bullshit charges (e.g. the Florida law on wrongly sexed licenses being fraud) is a test bed for that.
