Yeah, anyone who's surprised by this isn't paying attention.

All I can say is for all their hand-wringing and then toeing the party line, if you're a Republican in a state that currently has legal access to abortion it's not great odds that you'd remain in office if you voted for this. Ok, not all districts for a House rep for example, someone like Collins in Maine would have a tough time of it.

(Remember, it was a frustrating quirk of voting in November that people voted Republican nationally but to protect abortion locally- aka if they're "safe" if they let the Republicans do what they want was the message. Are they brazen enough to poke that bear in the eye? I guess we'll find out.)

Yeah that last bit was incredibly depressing. A lot of people really don't seem to care about anything outside of their own bubbles.

Also reminds me of what happened when AOC asked people who voted for both her and Trump what their reasoning was. Most of them said something along the lines of, "You're both anti establishment." Absolutely no grounding in policy or ideology, just vibes. You can't sustain a democracy when a huge swath of the public doesn't know and doesn't care.

The factors in this... IDK. Obviously our wreck of an educational system (mostly thanks to Republicans) and our wreck of a media ecosystem (also mostly thanks to Republicans), but also the US has had an anti-intellectual streak for so very long.
