So uh... anyone following Elon Musk's coup?

As in, the thing where he and his college script kiddies took control of the Treasury's computer systems, may have installed backdoors, and are now illegally yoinking money out of bank accounts? And even with judges ordering him to stop (which he won't, because it can't be enforced), nobody in authority seems to be understanding how catastrophically, world-wreckingly bad a problem this is?

I think a lot of people do, but there aren't enough of them to actually do something about it. Like the House oversight committee had a vote to force him to come in to answer questions- the Dems banked on the fact that not all the Republicans showed up, but unfortunately they all ran in fast and got to stop that 20-19.
Honestly, I think the thing here is he won't go out at the rate things are going until they actually break something bad, like if SS checks don't go out because a script kiddie ruined something. What he's doing just isn't really affecting that many people yet.
Frankly though this shit is all disturbing enough, with so little I can do about it, that I can only focus so long before I go back to work on something for my students or what have you (ie, something tangible I can do here that is good). Too easy to fall into a tail spin of worrying if I'll get the NSF grant I worked on all summer because I used the phrase "diversity of light curves" or similar bullshit.

Yeah that's fair, sorry. It's just hard not to feel overwhelmed. I'm doing what I can locally, but I know that won't be enough when things finally snap.

Because I work for the VA and am a remote worker I am right in the middle of the coup. Fortunately, they still think they have a need for medical workers. For Now. I am trying to decide if I should drop my retirement papers or if I can hang on for a couple more years.
