Venezuela's President Maduro seeks to govern by decree

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has asked parliament to give him special powers to fight corruption and what he called economic sabotage.

Not that it makes much difference, he has a majority in the National Assembly. But I still don't like it one bit.

If he has a majority why in hell he needs "special powers" to "root out corruption"? Not like the Judiciary is going to get in the way, it's managed by his cronies anyways.

Damned Idiot.

If he consolidates all the power and money with his office he can stop sharing with his cronies. And gets the fringe benefit of not having to worry about his cronies deciding to cut him out of the picture.

I presume that the excuse for "special powers" is this:

Mr Maduro vowed to root out corruption in all aspects of Venezuelan life, stressing that even members of the governing Unified Socialist Party would not be exempt from scrutiny.

It's well known that he's a wakling gaffe machine, but that one is almost funny.
