fisher, i have 1 word for you. don't.
It's been three months since the last time I quit. I think it's going to stick this time, mainly because, at the end, I was down to one cigarette a day. Then, I was ready. I didn't finish the pack. I just threw them away, and I haven't had one since. I still get cravings, but I'm finding that ignoring them seems to make them go away. Why couldn't I grasp this years ago? I have no idea.

I have hope rather than over confidence, so that's something.

This is how your health is improving
2 weeks to 3 months after quitting
Your circulation improves and your lung function increases.
(US Surgeon General’s Report, 1990, pp.193, 194,196, 285, 323)
1 to 9 months after quitting
Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) start to regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection.

Thanks pumpkinpi. This made me grin from ear to ear, which is pretty impressive since I'm currently watching Gracie (I've had her 17 years) get ready to cross the rainbow bridge.

Another Rainbow Bridge crossing.
They don't get any easier.
Give her a good send off. She is a lucky cat.

Thanks guys. So far, she's still comfortable. She's a bit absent minded, and I'm always really happy when I get to the litter box at the same time she does, so I can actually get her in the box. I give her credit for making it to the vicinity however.
She's still able to jump on sofas and beds, but she's not eating, only drinking, so it's obviously only a matter of time.
The waiting is horrible, but knowing that she is not suffering makes it worth it.

sfc, i'm so sorry to hear about gracie. i know how close we can be to our pets. i have found myself missing the cat(he acquired us after we'd resolved 'no more pets'. since he wasn't a pet he didn't have a name.) far more than i thought possible.
i'm sorry that i missed your earlier posts about no longer smoking. fantastic news!

Eight months, in spite of losing Gracie and facing scary stuff with Mom. I think I might really have it licked this time!

it's funny. Just this evening, we smelled cigarette smoke in our living room/kitchen area. No one lives within a hundred yards, but the wind conspired to send smoke from across the street all the way up at the neighbor's house, into our living room. Made vendic wanna puke. His triggers do not include the smell of smoke. I thought it smelled nice, but I'm really proud of getting through this current crisis without lighting up. I mean, we are fighting cancer after all.
It was just interesting, because for me, the smell of smoke is a real trigger, but for vendic, it's the exact opposite.
In any case, we're still smoke free and hope to stay that way.
