3AM

Just went through the worst experience, and I was told that it happens .6 times out of a thousand times. The crude birth rate in the US is somewhere around 15 per thousand so maybe 4 million births per year, and that would mean 2400 times a year in this country two parents bring a child to the third trimester, and the child dies. Half the time they never discover a reason, it just happens.

A perfectly formed child, on the fragile cusp of viability, suddenly dead. Two young first parents, so cockeyed optimistic in the face of everything this irrational world throws up, abruptly tossed into agony and confusion. How can they possibly recover? I know the answer is that they never will, not completely, and my own heart aches for that.

I have friends who have gone through the same. I can't imagine the feelings. My heart aches as well. 20 years out, they have never recovered really.

You get through it. You don't get over it.

grapes, my heart aches for you and your wife. what can compare to the death of a child? it is unnatural. fisher is right; one doesn't get over it. one gets on. and eventually, as joe biden said, one gets to a time when thoughts of the child makes one smile before one cries.

please feel free to call if you want. my number's on the contact list.

So, now it's 6am, the day after the birth of our first granddaughter. She's a perfect little thing, in almost all ways, and everybody is happy and healthy and recovering.

Just last week, when they scheduled the c-section, I said to my son just think, in a week you'll be a dad, and he said, I already am.

O yeah! forgot where I was. Just need to counter some of that BMR

My daughter was taking a video of my son trying to quiet the baby, and she stops crying as her mom walks past, then immediately resumes. Pretty funny. This is just genetic inborn stuff, right?

Religious folks: It's undeniable proof of God!
Atheists: It's evolution in action.
Statistician: With millions of babies around, it's bound to happen randomly and for no other cause.
