"Artistic" Horribleness

A friend of mine just posted a video on Facebook of her cousin's grandson singing. She insisted that is was "freakin' amazing", and asked that we all watch it. I got through 20 seconds before my ears were bleeding. It was horrible. Why do people not realize when their relatives aren't talented? I just don't get it.

Yes, bias. And lack of social graces.
I recognize that my son has horrible pitch. But I think it is adorable and love to listen to it.
However, I realize that others may find it excruciating, and I am perfectly fine with that. However, I wouldn't ever force it upon anyone!
I am totally biased toward my kids, and I think that's ok. I look at my kids and think they are the cutest, bravest, funniest, most creative, etc. My heart can't get over the fact that anyone might be better than them, but my head knows they can't be all of those. So I keep the bias to myself.

I think you're right. And what's funny to me is I have a lot more patience if it's something I'm not good at. I'm actually a pretty great singer. I could have done it professionally. I am not, however, and good at drawing or painting. Painting by number is the pinnacle of my artistic skill in that arena. Thus, I have a lot more patience for people painting stuff that others might not find that good. But if you sing and you're pitchy or screechy or off key, I feel a Simon Cowell moment coming on.
I should count my blessings that it was on Facebook so no one has to know how I really feel.

My husband has no pitch, either. I don't have a great voice, but I can at least follow the melody. So it drives me crazy when we sing happy birthday. Nothing worse than trying to carry a tune when no one around you can follow!

She said it was "freakin' amazing", she didn't say it was "freakin' amazingly good". You just didn't realize she meant amazingly bad.
