Russia once again is fighting history. I read an article over at the rferl website, last week the Russian Supreme Court upheld the July conviction of a Perm area blogger. The charges: "rehabilitating Nazi-ism" and "spreading false information about the activities of the Soviet Union during World War II". The crime: posting text that included statements that the Soviet Union invaded Poland in 1939. ETA: The conviction carried a fine of 200 000 rubles ( $3,100).
Another article at the same site tells of a Crimean Tatar dissident being confined to a psychiatric hospital. Reviving another soviet era practice.
I just gotta shake my head.
ETA 2: I wonder if some of this is also related to the fact that there are State Duma elections this year. Put fear into opponents.
