"Diana the hunter"

Just heard about this on NPR:

http://www.scpr.org/programs/take-two/2 ... ce-killer/

On the one hand, when hundreds of women have turned up dead, someone needs to do something. And if the police won't do anything... I can see where a woman would get fed up. Hell, I would get fed up. It's an ugly thing, but I can see where someone would want to take things into his or her own hands, if there were no recourse through legal means.

On the other, we don't know that the guys "Diana" killed were actually guilty. If not, well, that's not exactly helping things is it?

In any case, I find it very disturbing that two dead men capture the attention of the world and the local police department, while hundreds of dead women get no attention at all. That is seriously fucked up.

Dog Bites Man is not news.... Man bites dog, now that is news! Essentially, there have been news stories about the high rate of murder, rape, and other violent crimes against women in various places including Mexico. But, when a vigilante woman starts killing men it is absolutely going to make the news.

That is true, though I believe there's more to it in this case. If women were being murdered that frequently in my city, it would sure as hell make the news.

Also note that it's not just the media. The police seem to be paying the attention to "Diana" that they didn't pay to whoever was murdering women.

If your city were like Juarez, with its very high murder rate, murders cease to be newsworthy.
