Upshot is basically that, when given unfettered access to all kinds of information, people will usually go after what they want rather than what they need. Our primitive ape brains are still largely unequipped to handle the society we've created; and yes, that's a problem, and dealing with it will be painful.
(Actually I suspect Western governments have some inkling about this, and that that, not terrorism, is part of the reason for the surveillance state we're seeing. As much as governments like people to be gullible, not having functional citizens would cripple them.)
BTW I like how Kidron goes straight for the jugular with the porn question. A lot of people tend to shrug that one off in my experience, probably because it hits a bit too close to home.
