Astrobites

Postby Rommie » Sun Nov 24, 2013 11:13 am

Got a new gig (funny to say that, I don't get paid) contributing monthly to Astrobites- a site run by astro grad students where we summarize a new astronomy paper each day at an advanced undergraduate level. I'm actually not the best at reading the latest research so figure this is a good way to get around that, plus it's one of those "looks great on a CV!" things/ I like to write anyway, so why not. :)

So I'll be posting them here as they crop up, I think- I have this job for a year, next year is my last year ie "OMG THESIS!!!" time, so doubt I will do it much longer.

New Evidence of an Asteroid Encountering a Pulsar

(Btw I just realized the advantage of having a "post third Friday of the month" slot- my Astrobite stays on top of the page for the weekend!)

you are so amazing. Every time I read your posts it's like living vicariously. I wanted to be an astronomer - even minored in it at College but the Physics were so above my head they might as well be clouds.

It is wonderful to see the doors opening for you. You've worked hard for them.

Do Fast Radio Bursts Come from Flaring Stars?

Answer: who knows at this stage, but I do think Fast Radio Bursts are one of the most fascinating things right now in radio astronomy. :)
