Well, he's priceless, duh...
But how much is a chance to meet one, or at least see one in person, worth? I have an opportunity to attend a luncheon with Jack Schmitt, for $100. The price is steep, but I fear that one great regret I'll have in my life is never having met an Apollo astronaut. I don't know if I'll ever get another chance.

Considering that people spend that much (or lots more) on concerts and sporting events I think it's probably a fair price considering your passion for all things astro...

I always have said that astronauts are my rock stars......
I just have to decide whether I'll find the $100 to have been worth it if I only get to hear him speak, and not shake his hand/get a picture/get an autograph. I'm not sure if there will be opportunities for any of those.

What is the money going to? Is it a fundraiser for something worthwhile? Is any of it tax deductible? Or is it just getting pocketed by the promoter?

I met Al Woerden at a book signing two years ago (it was free though of course I bought a book). Frankly it was an amazing experience and it may well have been worth $100 to talk to him.
I mean I hate to say it, but realistically these guys were born in the 1930s so statistics state these national treasures will probably only be with us for another decade or so. It is a window of opportunity that is closing...

Though I can't find specifically the information for where the money goes, it is a fundraiser for an organization with a similar mission to mine. I anticipate seeing a lot of community colleagues there.
$100 is the lowest ticket. I could (with my organization) spend $5000 for "Luncheon + Leader Dialogue (10 - 11:30 a.m.), 10 preferred seats, 10 signed books & featured logo." I'm not sure what the leader dialogue is.
I am leaning toward yes. I can think of some things over the next few months that I could sacrifice to come up with the $100. I would save that much by biking to work 25 times, which I hope to do this fall. In fact, I've got 3 days down since Sept. 1!

Due to the unfortunate impact of the government shutdown on participants involved with Friday's event, AirSpace Minnesota is rescheduling Dr. Harrison Schmitt's visit. The new date will be communicated as soon it's finalized.

That actually wouldn't be the only opportunity to meet/be in their presence that weekend. The next day is a "Go Boldly" expo, a free event that will include book signings. So I can pay my $40 each for their book plus tickets to wait in line however many hours and get my 10 seconds with them. Or I could pony up for the more expensive event and a chance to dance with Buzz. Even though he was kicked off first, he was part of a season of Dancing With the Stars!

I could spend $25,000 for a table with one of them.
