Global deaths per year from diarrhea: 2.2 million (mostly children)

Global deaths per year from violence: over 1.6 million

Some of the most intrinsically treatable and preventable diseases cause at least as many deaths per year as the sum total of all human violence. Never mind the economic burden, which contributes heavily to poverty in a lot of countries.

I know that fighting terrorists and fighting cholera are not mutually exclusive, but still...
