The US Supreme Court has apparently ruled unanimously in the Myriad Genetics case that they can not patent naturally occurring genes. However they did allow the patenting of their synthetic cDNA. I think both are very good decisions.

I want to patent Judges and politicians.
That anytime they make a decision I get royalties...hmmm...ok, patenting politicians is obviously a waste of money.

In modern usage, the term patent usually refers to the right granted to anyone who invents any new, useful, and non-obvious process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter.

Obviously doesn't apply to your idea.
