Rainbow - Ariel
Wrong: "In the mirror you can see her face / She's an angel dressed in the black of space"
Right: "In the mirror you can see her face / She's an angel dressed in the blackest lace"
Black Mountain - Tyrants
Wrong: "Bastard, you won't be forgiven! / And no, we won't lay down! / Turn your beggared persistence! / Tear your vision down!"
Right: "Bastard, you won't be forgiven! / And no, we won't lay down! / Tyrant, you're the bane of existence! / Tyrant, you're the king of the damned!"
(Actually I'm not sure that's correct. Too many syllables? One can hope. )
The Smashing Pumpkins - Today
Wrong: "Can't wait for tomorrow / I might not have long / I'll burn my eyes out / Before the dawn"
Right: "Can't wait for tomorrow / I might not have long / I'll burn my eyes out / Before I get out"
(That's more a case of "mental autocomplete" substituting a more appropriate slant rhyme. Also, yes, most of Billy Corgan's lyrics are like that. Too bad, really.)
And for the finale, a Jay-Z/Kanye West number whose lyrics and title I cannot repeat:
lyrics linkie
The part I heard, as I heard it:
The stars they're in the building
All hands are to the ceiling
I know I'm about to feel it
You know I've got that feeling
All eyes are on the phone
Don't let me get in my zone
Don't let me get in my zone...
... For some reason I originally thought: "narrator is a down-and-out guy, disgusted with society, has a psychotic break towards the end of the song." Nope. Pretty disappointing, I honestly thought the lyrics were cleverer than that.
(Especially "Come and meet me in the bathroom stall / And tell me why you deserve to have it all." I thought that was a reference to Larry Craig before I looked up the song.)
