What a shame. He was only 69. I know many people here don't give a rat's ass when a celebrity dies, and I completely respect that, but this one hits a little close to home for me. When my mom and I first moved to Burbank, we got the opportunity to go and see the very last episode of "Growing Pains" being shot.

They were able to bring Tracy Gold back, as she had just finished recovering from anorexia. I had a huge crush on Kirk Cameron when I was fifteen, so it was cool, for me, to get to watch him live.

Well, what I didn't know was that Alan Thicke wrote music, and, in particular, he wrote the theme song to "The Flintstones." The guy that warms up the crowd shared this bit of trivia, and then asked if anyone wanted to attempt singing it. He kept tempting different people to give it a try, but they were all too shy. Finally, I threw up my hand. I think the warm up guy was relieved that someone wanted to give it a try.

I started belting it out, acapella, and, to my surprise, Alan Thicke came out from back stage to listen to me, then clapped when I was finished. It was a heady experience. I liked his acting. I'm sad that he is gone.

Nice Story.
I liked Growing Pains. I always thought he was witty and funny.

It's sad because of all the actors that many of us grew up with are passing. :(

I loved that show. Probably because it was aimed at my age group. I even met one of the writers when he came to speak in my acting class. Kirk Cameron is the reason it was canceled, because he met his wife Chelsea, and she converted him to Christianity. After that, he thought all the stuff the show wanted his character to do was the equivalent of pornography. Alen was very kind to him in spite of his right turn into insanity.

Some of his early credits, according to IMDb were interesting eg. writing for "The Tommy Hunter Show" (a country variety show airing on CBC) in 1965, The Paul Lynde Show (1973) amongst others. Theme music for a couple of game shows Wheel of Fortune (early first season) and Joker's Wild. Biggest theme credits being "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Facts of Life". Local news carried interviews with his step-dad, yesterday.

Love the story SciFi Chick, but just wondering, as pointed out earlier, timewise, perhaps might you be thinking of "Facts of Life" instead of "Flintstones". The first time the theme song for "The Flintstones" was used was Sept 1963, he would have been 16 and still in HS.

Well now I'm even more impressed that he came out and clapped since the warm up guy obviously had a warped sense of humor. I'm sooooo sick of being lied to.
