Black Sails

Do you watch Game of Thrones? If so, you might like Black Sails.

It's a pirate show on STARZ that ran four seasons. Centered around the pirate town of Nassau in the early 1700's, Black Sails is something of a prequel to Treasure Island, including the famous buried treasure and the cast of pirate characters.

Like GoT, it's violent, bloody, lots of swearing, lots of sex. You know, all the good stuff. Cinematography with the ships is pretty awesome, too.

It definitely is. STARZ is unfortunately a pay channel like HBO, but if you can get access, I'd say Black Sails is a treasure trove for his current project.

I watched the final episode of Black Sails today. While it wasn't as crushing as the final episodes of some series (crushing meaning me being sad because it's over, like I was with The Sopranos or Battlestar Galactica), it was quite poignant.

The series is a philosophical exercise in a combination of lofty subjects: freedom, human nature, nation-building, emotions. It also peripherally involves pirate stuff, but in a very graphic and satisfying way.

I will miss it. And I now need to read Treasure Island.
