Was considered for the role of Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), but dropped out to star in Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes (1968). The role was then given to Alan Rickman.

Yeah, I saw that. Taking the Severus role would certainly have boosted his career but apparently he had already committed to Planet of the Apes.

I find that hard to brlieve since Rowling has gone on record that Alan Rickman was her inspiration for Snape.

From what I'm reading, while Rowling had influence in choosing the actors, the producers had the final say. So perhaps Roth was under consideration for the role even if Rickman was the preferred choice.
