Good assessment. And the first one is particularly good because of the way Hanks delivered it.

Finally saw Capt. Phillips over the weekend. I'd tried a couple of other times but no one else in the house was interested. Well, everyone was asleep late Saturday night when it came on. So I ended up seeing like 90% of it. I heard interviews with both Hanks and Richard Phillips so I thought I kind of knew the story. I realize that some of the events were probably played up in "based on a true story" tradition. But wholly cow! What an intense ending. I didn't realize how close he came to getting killed on multiple occasions. And the extent of the resources spent on his rescue.

I can only repeat: it was intense.

I liked the movie. There was some controversy iirc but I enjoyed it.

When I first saw the post I was like, wtf, Tom Hanks died!!!
I guess this sub forum has become more of a memorial lately for me. :(
Thanks for all the fish.

I knew we had a Tom Hanks movie thread. So when I finally saw Capt. Phillips, I had to decide whether to create a new thread, put it in the "movie season" thread, or the "Tom Hanks" thread.

Some of the controversy after the movie came out revolved around interviews with at least one other crew member who disputed some of the events as portrayed in the movie. Don't remember all the specifics, but they put some blame on the captain for sailing the ship too close to the Somali coast when there were documented reports of active pirates in the area.
