He was suffering from late stage COPD. Several of us here on the board know that it's a nasty disease.

I know many FWISers don't understand being moved when someone they don't know dies, but this was one of those that brought a tear to my eye. Though I didn't know him personally, his work has touched my life, and his passing is a loss to me personally. My heart goes out to his friends and family, as obviously, it's a bigger loss for them. His last tweet is both touching and eloquent:

Leonard Nimoy wrote:A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory.

A world without Mr. Spock is not logical.

The needs of the many apparently are not relevant in this situation

His poetry and photography were both breathtaking. He was a true artist. I have to see if I still have the note he sent me some years ago. I always had a crush on Spock. The world is a little smaller today.

I actually find it slightly disturbing that someone is retweeting obituary tweets now on his twitter feed. I mean, I get it, and it's likely someone he knew or a PR person entrusted with it, but it's still weird.

As usual, Scott Simon had an interesting commentary on Saturday. This time, a Remembrance of Leonard Nimoy.
