NPR has an article on Rush!

http://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2 ... rushs-2112

Ayn Rand duckspeak aside, I'll admit I was something of a fan circa high school. Not so much any more, but that's mostly just changing musical tastes.

Hey, Gullible: Thanks.
I enjoyed the article. I'll admit that most of the major points I was already familiar with. But I liked reading about it from someone else's viewpoint and that possibly other people were being exposed to the ideas or even the band itself that otherwise would not have.

I also see this has not fostered any discussion here, but I still thank you for pointing me to it.
;)

You're welcome. :)

On a related note, I decided to give "Earthshine" a listen again today, for some reason. Changing tastes aside, the drum and guitar work are pretty incredible (at least to my untrained layperson's ears).

About the only work I am really familiar with of Rush's is their 2112 Album. And mostly the songs dealing with the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx. :P

Well, that was the album, and specifically the song that allowed them to write their own ticket for the rest of their career. Most people if they've even heard of Rush only know Tom Sawyer, or it's Platinum album Moving Pictures. At least out of the 40 or 50 hit songs they have, it's the only one that radio programmers appear to be aware of.

Tom Sawyer - Yes, I know that one. But, only because I asked Brite to make me a jogging mix a few years ago and that song wound up on the list. :P I actually like it.

While we're at it: when I was reading Glasshouse, "Armor and Sword" was totally Robin's leitmotif.

This past weekend, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson received the "key to the city" from Mayor John Tory. A parkette in Willowdale was named Lee-Lifeson Park.

I don't know if I could list my top 10. I'd feel bad for about 25 songs that didn't make the cut.
