Glad I was sitting down when I listened to this

Was browsing some of my old fave bands and came across this.

Apocalyptica - I'm Not Jesus

It's about a survivor of abuse by a priest, but the general sentiment is pretty powerful for me right now.

Wow, I thought I recognized the band name Apocalyptica. Forgot or didn't connect that it is a "Finnish, Cello, Metal Band." Don't hear alot of those on US classic rock stations. This song has Corey Taylor on vocals. He's in Slipknot who I don't really follow but enjoy him in Stone Sour. The next song that played after this one featured vocalist Adam Gontier from 3 Days Grace and did get significant airplay on our hard rock stations. I guess I thought it was either a 3DG or a Gontier solo song, didn't make the connection to the Cello band.

Do you like other songs by this band or were you just drawn to the content of this particular one?

I like almost all of Apocalyptica's material, most especially their own instrumentals, but only started listening to them again recently. Their stuff kind of helped keep me alive in HS and college.

This song is... special to me now, though, even though it doesn't stand out much melodically IMO.

No, that's cool. I didn't know if you were a fan of the band in general or just gravitated to that song. I'm not terribly familiar with them except where they have intersected with US mainstream metal. I noticed that song was co written by Geno Lenardo who was in Filter and worked with members of Disturbed among others. A whole bunch of inter connectivity.

Ah, you got in before my post :)

Yeah, I've kind of become a ridiculous metalhead over the years, though US mainstream metal is not really my thing; in general I seem to lean towards Scandinavian stuff? Especially Finnish bands for some reason. (Yes, Finland has produced a lot more awesome stuff than just Linux.)

I've seen a little of some European metal bands when Paladia or MTV Live shows some of the big mega music festivals. I'll give those a listen shortly.

Would recommend Nightwish most strongly, especially recent stuff. I loved "Imaginaerum", it's very Bradbury-like IMO.

A lot of my other faves, e.g. Pain of Salvation or Swallow The Sun, are more YMMV, and also waaaay less safe for work. :)
