I posted this when I found out:
Suddenly you were gone. From all the lives you left your mark upon. Whether in triumph or tragedy, success or failure, you always handled yourself with dignity and humility, You may never know how much you meant to each of us, or you might be embarrassed as to how much we revered you. Always wanting to be just a guy, you left us way too soon, quietly and privately. Thank you for what I and many of us will never be able to explain. Here's to you, Professor. Peace.

I'm glad he was able to spend the last few years with his wife and daughter and not out on the road. I'm glad he was able to keep it private as he wished. I'm sad for his family. I'm sad I'll never get to see him perform live again.
Apparently my fanaticism is well known. Within minutes of the news breaking I was getting condolence texts with "Sorry for your loss," and everything. It was somewhat surreal.
