Not a joke. True. But funny, I thought.

I was working on my family tree, looking at a death certificate for a 3rd cousin twice removed. Like most death certificates the names of the undertaker and embalmer were on the certificate, but this one was typed, so it was easy to read. The name of the embalmer was John F. Doom. I kid you not. I had a good laugh at that name for that occupation.

So when the townsfolk remarked "We're all doomed!", they were just referring to the fact that everyone is mortal and will end up at the undertaker?

Sounds about the same to me.
But I'll bet he wouldn't have done much business if he had owned the funeral home.

Predestination? Well, we all kind of predestinated to be one of his customers eventually.

Well not exactly....
it reminded me of a joke I heard about a man in Italy that's going to get a marriage license. The joke is Argentinian and it's mostly in pidgin Italian/Spanish.
Civil Servant: Nome? (First Name)
Man: Cornelio
Civil Servant: Cognome? (Last Name)
Man: Cornutti
Civil Servant: professione? (occupation)
Man: Musico (Musician)
Civil Servant: Instrumento qui toca? (what musical instrument do you play?)
Man: Il Corno (French Horn)
The civil servant looks at the man, shakes his head and says sententiously: "Predestinato, Predestinato". (Doomed, Doomed)
In spanish, a man who has an adulterous wife is referred to as "Cornudo" (Cornuto in italian).
