Very nice piece. I've read her stuff since the 70s and had a course in college (on sociology) which used two of her books: The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed. The Lathe of Heaven is almost mind altering.

I seem to recall Left Hand of Darkness was a topic of one of my classes too.

She's a national treasure, although I'm not sure I'd describe her as 'courageous'.

LeGuin is my absolute favorite author. Her treatment of gender issues is about 50 years ahead of her time.
